Minute Man Mondays

Minute Man Mondays started as a way to showcase the abilities of J. Onyx. Growing up and listening to artists like Lil’ Wayne, who was a master at remixing songs, and later having influences like Childish Gambino, Mac Miller, Logic, and Kendrick Lamar, Onyx saw remixes as a way to honor the artists and their music. As a way to show his skills and pay respects to some of his favorite songs and artists, J. Onyx created the Minute Man Monday series. With Season 1 being solely exclusive to Instagram, J. Onyx sought help from local videographer Toan to express his vision on a whole new level. Season 2, has been a way for J. Onyx to express himself in a new light with his team backing him and helping his creativity grow. The future of the MMM series is still unknown but you can keep up with its’ progress and J. Onyx either on Youtube or through his Instagraam.

James Phillips best known as J. Onyx. This young prodigy has always had natural skills and talent, he just needed a platform to showcase himself. He grew up in the arts and has always had a love for all things music. Most would describe his distinct style of music as a mixture of lyricism, and contemporary storytelling, all coming together into conscious rap.

As a child his grandmother would play James Brown and sing and dance with him around the house, this sparked his love of music. As he grew older and learned more about the different styles of music he found himself listening to Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, and Common. Hearing them rap ignited an interest in rapping and song writing.
